About Dacre House

Dacre House luxury bed and breakfast on hadrian's wall

Natives of the North East, we returned to this beautiful part of Northumberland in 2007 having spent 13 years in London.

We purchased Dacre House and moved to Gilsland with our daughter to begin our new adventure -restoring our house to provide luxury guest
accommodation.

After 15 years of extensive renovation work(and a little longer than we originally planned!) we opened our doors to guests in May 2022.

Team Dacre is family affair with one teenager and two dogs, we are on hand to make sure every aspect of your stay is perfect.

We look forward to welcoming you to Dacre House very soon

Responsible Impact

It is incumbent upon us to ensure we carefully source the things we use, minimising our consumption and reducing waste wherever possible. Our cleaning products are plant based. We’ve removed all single use items. Packaging is compostable or biodegradable and re-use or as a minimum re-cycling is very important to us

Our chosen charity partner is North of Tyne Mountain Rescue, which is entirely staffed by unpaid volunteers and funded solely by charitable donations. They operate in partnership with the Northumberland National Park MRT, providing Search and Rescue cover for remote and urban areas of Northumberland and Tyne & Wear, 365 day of the year.

We raise funds through both direct donations and sales of our dual branded merchandise and ’emergency spares’ for walkers.

Sustainable

Our artisan producers are chosen to minimise foodmiles and ensure provenance through the use of very local supply chain within a 20 mile radius from Dacre House.

For example cheese from the village organic dairy farm, jams from a local charity enterprise, bread from a community bakery grinding flour by waterwheel to one of the oldest independent coffee roasters and tea blender in Cumbria.

Our is waste is segregated and food waste is composted in our new ‘hot bin’ and the house benefits from intelligent controls and innovative features to reduce energy & water use throughout.
